The online payment method giropay has been discontinued

- and what that means for you

The online payment method giropay, which was offered by German banks and Sparkassen , was discontinued on December 31, 2024. This means that payments via giropay are no longer possible, nor is sending and receiving money via the giropay app.

This decision affects everyone who has relied on this payment method up to now, i.e., both consumers and the retail sector. Anyone who has payment method giropay as their preferred payment method up to now will have to switch to alternative payment options.

What happens to refunds?

If a payment has been made via giropay and a refund is required, this can only be processed directly via the merchant. This is no longer possible via the giropay system. Affected customers should therefore contact the respective company directly.

What should I do if I have further questions?

If you have any questions about outstanding transactions, please contact your account-holding institution. Your bank or Sparkasse provide you with more detailed information on the processing of outstanding payments and possible alternatives.
