Fast, convenient, secure: customers prefer to pay contactless
Frankfurt am Main, November 5, 2024: Contactless payment is becoming increasingly important in many people's hectic everyday lives. Whether in the supermarket, at the discount store, or in the drugstore, a quick "bing" completes the payment process in a matter of seconds, without having to search for coins or enter a PIN. girocard a central role in this and has established itself as a fixture in everyday payment transactions. A study conducted by infas quo on behalf of EURO Kartensysteme shows how often people go to the supermarket and what criteria they use to select where to shop. When it comes to paying, one thing is clear: it has to be convenient, fast, and easy.
When shopping, respondents are not only concerned with price: of course, low costs remain a decisive factor for 82% of respondents when choosing a store. Nevertheless, other factors also play a decisive role in shoppers' decisions: Eight out of ten (81 percent) customers prefer stores with a wide range of products, while 68 percent look for good parking facilities. The option of cashless payment at the checkout is a must for over half of those surveyed (55%). It is the combination of convenience, flexibility and choice that drives many people's decisions when it comes to where they do their weekly shopping. For 71%, it is also crucial to have everything they need in one place - which is why supermarkets and discount stores are the first port of call for many.
girocard remains the number one at the checkout
girocard remains girocard payment method of choice at store checkouts. The debit card issued by German banks and Sparkassen particularly Sparkassen in large retail outlets such as discount stores (43 percent) and supermarkets (42 percent). 71 percent of customers prefer contactless payment with girocard. They appreciate not only the speed of the payment process, but also its ease of use. Other cashless payment methods such as paying by smartphone or smartwatch are also gaining in importance – here, the wallet can stay in the shopping basket. It is clear that the desire for greater convenience is growing – and contactless payment has managed to meet these needs. In addition to customer-friendly handling, consumers appreciate the security girocard. It meets the highest security standards of the German banking industry, which gives users a good feeling when paying – regardless of whether they use their card modern wearables such as smartwatches.
