Commerzbank now also offers Apple Pay with girocard
- Simple and secure payment for more customers
- Nationwide usability increases
- "With Apple Pay for girocard , we girocard the mobile payment options available to our customers."
Frankfurt am Main, 22.11.2024: From today, it is possible to use the mobile girocard for Apple Pay at Commerzbank AG - a simple and secure payment method that supports customers in making contactless payments with their iPhone or Apple Watch and at the same time protects every transaction.
"With Apple Pay for girocard , we girocard the mobile payment options available to our customers. This underlines Commerzbank's commitment to offering a wide range of mobile payment services on the German market," emphasized Thomas Schaufler, Commerzbank's Board Member responsible for Private and Small Business Customers.
Oliver Hommel, CEO of EURO Kartensysteme GmbH and girocard Scheme Manager, added: "We are delighted that Commerzbank customers can now use Apple Pay with their girocard at 1.2 million acceptance points. This strengthens the girocard offering, which is the most widely used payment method in Germany."
Customers can now use Apple Pay at merchants that only accept girocard payments. These include, for example, many pharmacies, cabs, cafés and smaller retail outlets. As a result, more customers are now able to use girocard, which has been established over the years, with the simple application of Apple Pay. Payment with Apple Pay is secure as it is authenticated with Face ID, Touch ID or device password and a unique dynamic security code.
Security and data protection are top priorities for Commerzbank and Apple. When customers use Apple Pay, the number of cards used is not stored on the device or on Apple servers. Instead, a unique device account number is stored in encrypted form in the secure element. It is also assigned to an industry-standard certified chip that securely stores the payment information on the device.
Apple Pay can be set up easily via the Commerzbank banking app or Apple Wallet. You can find more information here: www.commerzbank.de/applepay.
